Felix Manzanero was born in Madrid in 1937. At 14 he started his apprenticeship in the workshop of Jose Ramirez, where he learned the difficult art of making stringed instruments. After twelve years there, he started his own business and workshop in the street of Santa Ana in Madrid. Many famous concert performers from all over the world have visited him there to admire his guitars.

For many years Mr. Manzanero has dedicated much of his time to the study of the guitar and its sounds. He has made a guitar without fan braces and with a seventh interior string. With the idea of gaining a better sound, he has also made an eliptical guitar. Together with a group of engineers, he has been experimenting with the development of an elaborate technical system to find the ideal measurement of the harmonic table before it is mounted in the instrument.

Luthier and Collector

He is also a great collector of antique guitars, and his collection, exhibited in his workshop along with his own guitars, has gained the admiration of some of the world's most famous guitar collectors.

Artesanos de la GuitarraFelix Manzanero is a member of the Artesanos de la Guitarra, Escuela de Madrid, the famous "Madrid School" of guitar makers, who are among Spain's most distinguished luthiers. These master craftsmen have inherited a centuries-old tradition not only of superb craftsmanship but also of continuous innovation and improvement of the guitar as a musical instrument.
